COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mount Carmel Health System announced Tuesday that it has reached a multi-year agreement with Aetna.
A public relations firm for Mount Carmel released a statement on behalf of the group Tuesday evening, confirming the agreement. The news comes as a relief to thousands of patients who will now be able to maintain in-network access to Mount Carmel services.
Tuesday was the final day the groups could make a deal as their current agreement ends on Jan. 1, 2025.
Mount Carmel will, however, not be included in Humana’s network on Jan. 1, 2025.
“For months, we’ve worked diligently to find common ground with Humana to ensure your access to Mount Carmel remains uninterrupted. We rely on fair payment from health insurers so we can sustain the high-quality care patients like you depend on and need,” a statement on Mount Carmel’s website reads. “We will not give up trying to reach a fair agreement with Humana.”
On Monday, Ohio State announced that they also reached an agreement with Anthem on a new network participation contract. The new multi-year agreement for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance takes effect on Jan. 1, 2025.
Anthem and Ohio State did not reach an agreement on the health system remaining in the Anthem Medicare Advantage network for 2025.
Ohio State patients with Anthem Medicare Advantage coverage will lose in-network access to care beginning Wednesday.
