Destination DC, the official destination marketing organization for Washington, DC, has announced significant promotions within its leadership team. Dianna Waldroup has been appointed as vice president of Convention Services, while Letizia Sirtori takes on the role of vice president of Tourism and Global Development, both of whom are joining the executive team. Additionally, Alex Gnafakis has been elevated to senior creative director within the senior staff, and Lindsay Hill has been promoted to director of visitor experience and group tours, becoming part of DDC’s senior team.

Welcoming Dianna Waldroup to the Executive Team
Dianna Waldroup, now serving as Vice President of Convention Services, brings over 35 years of experience with Destination DC (DDC). In her leadership role, Waldroup manages a skilled hospitality team that offers essential support to meeting professionals, ensuring smooth operations for events of all sizes. She also supervises a group of more than 120 temporary staff members, known as the “Redcoats,” who provide on-site assistance at various conventions. Waldroup’s strong relationships with hospitality leaders across Washington, DC, are a key factor in her success. As part of her new role, she will focus on elevating the customer experience and strengthening partnerships with local stakeholders. In recognition of her leadership and industry impact, Waldroup was named one of Connect Corporate’s “15 Over 50” in 2020.

Introducing Letizia Sirtori as Vice President of Tourism and Global Development
With 17 years of experience at Destination DC (DDC), Letizia Sirtori has demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic vision, particularly in the Tourism Sales and Visitor Experience department. She has played a pivotal role in expanding Washington, DC’s tourism reach in international markets and fostering strategic partnerships with airlines, corporations, and other destinations. Sirtori is also responsible for overseeing DDC’s international representation offices in the UK, Mexico, Brazil, China, Australia, India, and Japan. Her expertise and influence extend beyond DDC, as she serves as a board member for the International Inbound Travel Association.
“This role marks both a personal and professional milestone for me,” Sirtori said. “DDC has truly become my second family, a place where I’ve had the privilege to grow alongside incredible colleagues and contribute to the global expansion of our efforts. It’s been rewarding to witness the transformation of our team and to play a role in shaping our strategy as we continue to lead innovative tourism initiatives on a global scale.”
Promotions within Senior Staff
Alex Gnafakis – Senior Creative Director
Alex Gnafakis has played a pivotal role in leading Destination DC’s in-house creative team, producing award-winning visual content that brings both DDC’s and Washington, DC’s brand narratives to life. Over the past eight years, her creative work has resonated with both domestic and international audiences, including meeting planners and members. Gnafakis’ strategic vision and expertise in branding were instrumental in shaping the highly successful “There’s Only One DC” campaign—an impactful and award-winning initiative that marked the most significant evolution of DDC’s brand messaging and visual identity in recent history.

Lindsay Hill – Director of Visitor Experience and Group Tours
Since joining Destination DC in 2012, Lindsay Hill has been a driving force behind the development of innovative programs, including member onboarding, travel agent training, accessibility initiatives, luxury offerings, and an expansive university and welcome center portfolio. As the primary point of contact for group tour operators, Hill is also at the forefront of engaging with the student market. Her global travels enable her to gain insights into the evolving needs and desires of visitors to Washington, DC. In 2015, Hill was recognized with the Group Travel Leader’s “Next Gen in Group Travel” award, a testament to her commitment and contributions to the industry.
“I began as a coordinator, so the dedication that DDC puts into staff development is tremendous,” Hill said. “I am beyond excited to focus on ensuring all visitors to Washington, DC have the best possible experience. From the eighth-grade field trip attendee dreaming of DC to helping schools craft trip itineraries, my position is a dream come true.”
