Both boys wrote essays focused on the theme “my voice in America’s democracy.”
Heath said he researched how individuals have changed democracy by themselves.
“I just liked writing and research is fun,” he said.
Anderson said he started by listing ideas then crafted his essay from those ideas.
“It was real fun to do it,” he said.
Anderson and Heath both said they finished their essays over the course of about five days.
