It looks like that privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo will now help you anonymously use popular AI chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT (based on GPT-3.5), Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Mixtra 8x7B and Meta Llama 3 for free.
The new feature plans to help people use the power of generative AI while also mitigating privacy concerns that users may have around using the popular chatbots.
How to access DuckDuckGo free AI chat?
You can get access to the new AI chat feature anonymously by navigating to duck.ai or duckduckgo.com/chat.
So how does the DuckDuckGo AI free chat work? Here’s how you can use it:
- Upon landing on the AI search page, you can choose the generative AI model of your choice and start using it just like any other chatbot.
- You can also tap on the fire button in order to clear the last chat.

When asked about what DuckDuckGo plans to bring on the plate with its new feature “We believe people should be able to use the Internet and other digital tools without feeling like they need to sacrifice their privacy in the process. So, we meet people where they are, developing products that add a layer of privacy to the everyday things they do online. That’s been our approach across the board – first with search, then browsing, email, and now with generative AI via AI Chat,” the company explained.
Amidst the brighter side, DuckDuckGo also stated that they will not store or save chats permanently. This might be saddening for some, but critics argued that this can help to strengthen the privacy of users.
However, the chats on DuckDuckGo can be stored temporarily by the AI model providers, which the browser claims is ‘necessary for them to ensure that their model’s system is working.’
