Capcom has revealed during a recent meeting with shareholders that the 1994 Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme still generates millions of yen every year.
Street Fighter is the definition of a ‘good bad movie,’ and despite a mauling from critics upon its release managed to prove a box office success, generating three times its production costs. It has since gained a cult following among fans. In addition to Van Damme, Street Fighter also features pop star Kylie Minogue as Cammy and the late Raul Julia as M.Bison, who passed away two months before the film was completed.

The film is based loosely on Street Fighter II and features Van Damme as Colonel Guile as he and a cast of iconic characters from the games battle against M. Bison’s plans for world domination. Guile has the likes of H. Honda, Ken, Ryu, and Balrog on his side, while Dee Jay, Zangief, Sagat, and Vega fight for M.Bison.
Street Fighter also saw a video game adaptation for the PSOne and Sega Saturn in 1995.
