The Rinov/Pitha Pair Failed To Step Into The 2024 BAC, Losing To Seo/Chae Unggul

JAKARTA – The Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, had to end their journey at the 2024 Asian Badminton Championships (BAC) after being defeated by world champions Seo Seung Jae and Chae Yu Jung, in the round of 16, which was held in Ningbo, China, on Thursday 11 April.

In the match that took place, Rinov/Pitha lost in two straight games with a score of 18-21, 14-21. According to Rinov, the main factor in their defeat was the many mistakes they made, which ultimately gave an easy point for the opponent.

“This result is not what we expected. Actually in the first game, until the 9th point, we were able to play well. After that, we actually made a lot of mistakes. Many died alone,” said Rinov.

The world number 15 mixed doubles pair also revealed that there was actually an opportunity for them to win in the first game, but the lack of consistency in maintaining momentum became an obstacle.

Earlier, there was actually an opportunity to win in the first game. It’s just that we are still less consistent than the opponent. We still make a lot of mistakes ourselves at critical points,” said Rinov.

In the second game, despite having taken the lead early in the game, Rinov/Pitha were unable to maintain this advantage due to a lack of consistency, so Seo/Chae managed to win quickly.

“In the second game, the incident was almost similar. Had the lead at the beginning of the game, but because it was less consistent, we lost. We still often make mistakes. The point is, compared to the opponent, we lost consistently,” said Rinov.

Meanwhile, there are still five other Indonesian representatives who will compete in the second round of the 2024 BAC. Among them, Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja and the men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto will face South Korean and Taiwanese representatives.

In the women’s singles sector, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung will face Taiwan representatives, while in the men’s singles sector, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie will face representatives of the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong. All eyes are on their appearance to represent the nation and achieve achievements in the international arena.
