The S&P 500 turned higher on Friday, though not by much.
The market benchmark was up 0.1% shortly after 2 p.m. Eastern. Within the index, 268 stocks were rising on the day.
The S&P 500’s consumer discretionary, energy, and real estate sectors were struggling. All three were down more than 0.6%. Consumer staples were leading the 11 major sectors with a gain of 0.5%. S&P 500 financials were up 0.4% and technology stocks were up 0.3%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was still on track to close higher for an eighth straight session. The Dow was up 88 points, or 0.2% in recent trading. The Nasdaq Composite was down 0.1%.
The moves were muted on Friday as traders were already looking ahead to key inflation reports next week.
