The Bilt Mastercard doesn’t have an official welcome offer, but many new cardholders get targeted for a promotion giving 5x points for their first 5 days of card membership.
It turns out that there might be an additional way to get a 5x offer on (nearly) all purchases – request a credit line increase.
Reader Perrin gave us a heads up about this earning opportunity. They requested a credit line increase which was approved; the following day they received an email offering 5x on all purchases excluding rent for the next 5 days.
You still have to make a minimum of 5 transactions per billing period to earn the bonus points and there’s a limit of 10,000 bonus points. However, be aware that you’ll earn 5x on more than $2,000 of spend.
That’s because of the earning structure of the Bilt card. For example, the card earns 3x on dining expenditure which is made up of 1 base point per dollar and 2 bonus points per dollar. That means you’re effectively only earning an additional 2x bonus points on dining purchases with this 5x offer. I therefore believe that you’d max out the 10k of earnings if spending $5,000 exclusively on dining, or $2,500 of unbonused spend (i.e. 4x bonus points). We’ve reached out to Bilt to gain confirmation as to if that’s how the limit of bonus points is calculated; we’ll update this post once we’ve received a reply.
Note that this is the first report we’ve had regarding a Bilt cardholder receiving a 5x spending offer when requesting a credit limit increase. There’s therefore no guarantee that every cardholder will be offered the same thing if also applying for an increase, but if you do request one then be sure to keep an eye on your emails.
