OpenAI Spring Event 2024: ChatGPT maker OpenAI announced several new products and enhancements at its Spring Update event. Apart from GPT-4o, the company also unveiled a ChatGPT desktop app for macOS. It will be available for free and paid users of the AI chat model to ensure seamless workflow on your computer. According to OpenAI, users can ask questions to the chatbot via the Option + Space keyboard shortcut.
According to the company’s blog post, users can discuss screenshots within the app. They can also start conversations with ChatGPT from their PC using the Voice Mode, which will be available at launch. The company said GPT-4o’s audio and video capabilities will be available on the app “in the future”. In the current build, users can tap the headphone icon to start a voice chat.
“Whether you want to brainstorm a new idea for your company, prepare for an interview or have a topic you’d like to discuss, tap the headphone icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop app to start a voice conversation,” OpenAI said. The app is currently rolling out for macOS starting today for Plus users. It will be “broadly available in the coming weeks”.
“Plus users will get up to 5x higher limits, and earliest access to features like our new macOS desktop app and next-generation voice and video capabilities,” OpenAI said on X (formerly called Twitter). OpenAI also stated that it plans to bring a Windows version of the application “later this year”. The new app comes as an alternative to using ChatGPT on the web. ChatGPT app is also available on Android and iOS platforms.
