The men and women’s gymnastics competitions at the 2024 Olympics are well underway, with the women’s team finals set to take place on July 30.
The U.S. men’s gymnastics team — Asher Hong, Paul Juda, Brody Malone, Stephen Nedoroscik and Frederick Richard — won bronze during the men’s team finals on July 29, marking the first time the men’s team has been on the podium since 2008.
Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera are set to take the women’s team on a “redemption tour” from the team’s performance in Tokyo in 2021, and all eyes will be on Biles as she competes to become the most decorated American gymnast in history.
Olympic gold medalist and NBC Sports gymnastics analyst Laurie Hernandez told Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie while on TODAY July 26 what she anticipated the women’s gymnastic competition will look like.
“It is so exciting watching all the athletes go out there and train and also, like you mentioned, a lot of them are my friends,” Hernandez said. “So seeing them get out there, get a feel for the equipment, I think we’re going to see some amazing gymnastics. Not just from Team USA, but from all countries.”
She went on to say that Team USA is “looking as strong as ever” and she thinks “gold is in the future” for the women.
The men’s gymnastics qualifying rounds were on July 27, and the women’s qualifiers were the day after on July 28. The men and women’s finals are scheduled to run from July 29 to Aug. 5.
