A Tomahawk man who police called “a prolific property offender” and who was under a Canada-wide warrant was apprehended in the Mayerthorpe area recently.

Daniel O’Donnell, 38, was caught as a result of a police operation on Oct. 22.

According to the Alberta RCMP, a stolen vehicle was found in Lac Ste. Anne County, and police believed the suspect had it.
The RCMP Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), using RCMP helicopters and remotely piloted aircraft systems (drones), put the suspect under surveillance.
The CRU unsuccessfully attempted to use a tire deflation device to stop the suspect’s vehicle, but an RCMP helicopter continued to track it.
A second tire deflation device was then put out, this time successfully. Police said the suspect left the vehicle and was caught while trying to steal a different vehicle.
O’Donnell is charged with:
- Robbery with a firearm
- Possessing property obtained by crime worth over $5,000
- Dangerous operation of a vehicle
- Operation while prohibited
- Possessing weapons contrary to an order
- Possessing weapons for dangerous purposes
- Resisting a police officer
- Breaking and entering at a residence
- Theft worth under $5,000
- Fraudulent concealment
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
The suspect is in custody, according to police.
