MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Madison-area students placed second in a Junior Investment Club competition at the 100 Black Men of American annual conference in Atlanta on Thursday.
The students were awarded $750 for the accomplishment. The competition’s sponsor, Wells Fargo, also gave an additional $5,000 to the chapter to celebrate their top-five placement.
The team managed virtual investment portfolios to simulate investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. They then took on teams throughout the country to compete for the largest return from their portfolio.
The team was excited to have done so well and to have received these accolades.
“I’m very grateful to be a part of this opportunity and to be another representation of Black women in excellence,” said team member Ameria Scott.
Each student was also surprised with $200 from Wells Fargo to invest in their individual financial futures.
