Since Shane van Gisbergen came to America last year and whooped the Cup Series field, Kyle Larson has been trying to learn. With more Supercars talent coming to NASCAR, Larson is also looking forward to the challenges.
You are never going to scare a great competitor with another athlete. The great ones believe they can take on anyone and everyone, regardless of who they are or their background. You don’t attempt the Double if you don’t believe otherwise.
Larson spoke to media at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday about the Supercars takeover, so to speak. It is something that he looks forward to. He wants the best of the best, globally.
“Yeah I don’t know why I think it’s um, I think as competitors we all want to compete with the best,” Kyle Larson said. “So I really look forward to the opportunity to race against those guys that have been able to come over. Especially with Shane and how he smoked us at Chicago last year. I get excited now when you have other guys come in and get to race with us and we can kind of not only see how we compare against them but it’s an opportunity for us to all get better and look at different areas of how we can improve out skillset.
“I was just talking to Will Brown before I came in here and just listening to him and how he talks about what a race weekend looks like over there and how they strategize a weekend is pretty interesting compared to what we are here. So, just communicating with them I learned a lot. Those guys have more experience doing this even though it’s their first races in a Cup car, they’re still more experienced than us. You can learn from that experience and become better, I think that’s good.”
You won’t ever scare Kyle Larson away with talent. It is clear that he wants to test his mettle against anyone and everyone. Larson will start P5 at Sonoma today. Will Brown and his Supercars peer Cam Waters are starting P24 and P31, respectively.
With the repave driver aren’t expecting passing to be easy. However, there could be mistakes made as the course is quicker and possibly wearing tires down quicker. A few new variables in place, hopefully enough to make it interesting.
Kyle Larson will try to retake the points lead with Denny Hamlin starting P25.
