A STAY-AT-HOME mum has revealed a simple side hustle, that makes her money while she sits watching TV.
Maddie, who is a mum of two toddlers, revealed details of her money making hack via a video posted to her TikTok channel.
The busy mum shared that she made £116 from two hours work envelope writing, and then spent the rest of the day at the beach.
Maddie explained that she sends index cards in envelopes to online sweepstakes casinos.
She revealed that the casinos will process your envelopes and deposit £5 in your bank account for every envelope you send in.
“You can turn these ‘coins’ into redeemable cash in your bank account”, she said.
Maddie shared that you just write the same sentences over and over in each envelope, and said your handwriting doesn’t even need to be neat, just legible.
The mum said that she can write 15 envelopes per hour and works for an average of three hours a day.
This makes her around £180 per day, or £5,400 per month.
She also makes money from selling an online guide to envelope writing, which includes writing examples and tips for success for £37.
Maddie shared that the reasons she loves this side hustle is that she doesn’t have to be on her phone 24/7, she can make money whilst watching TV and because she knows exactly how much money she will be getting.
She has to pay for supplies to write the envelopes but said it is worth if for the money she will get back.
Maddie said: “Being present is a very important part of my motherhood journey.
“Envelope writing allows me to be present with my family”.
Maddie’s video, which was posted under the username @thepresenthustlemama, has likely left many people impressed, as it has gone viral, racking up over 800,000 views on the video sharing platform.
TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts.
Do I need to pay tax on my side hustle income?
MANY people feeling strapped for cash are boosting their bank balance with a side hustle.
The good news is, there are plenty of simple ways to earn some additional income – but you need to know the rules.
When you’re employed the company you work for takes the tax from your earnings and pays HMRC so you don’t have to.
But anyone earning extra cash, for example from selling things online or dog walking, may have to do it themselves.
Stephen Moor, head of employment at law firm Ashfords, said: “Caution should be taken if you’re earning an additional income, as this is likely to be taxable.
“The side hustle could be treated as taxable trading income, which can include providing services or selling products.”
You can make profit of up to £1,000 a year tax-free via the trading allowance, but over this and you’ll usually need to pay tax.
Stephen added: “You need to register for a self-assessment at HMRC to ensure you are paying the correct amount of tax.
“The applicable tax bands and the amount of tax you need to pay will depend on your income.”
If you fail to file a tax return you could end up with a surprise bill from HMRC later on asking you to pay the tax you owe – plus extra fees on top.
One person said: “I want to start this now”.
Another person said: “I’d love to get started”.
A third remarked: “This seems too good to be true”.
A fourth said: “I’m so interested”.
