GLOUCESTER COUNTY — Gloucester County recently announced that native Hunter LeClair was named its new Tourism, Marketing & Events Manager for the county’s Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department.
According to the county, LeClair will be involved in the general oversight of the marketing initiatives for the Visitor Center, Museum of History, and special events including the Daffodil Festival.
The county’s goal for the position is to increase tourism in Gloucester by showcasing its historic and natural resources and enhancing the visitor’s experience in Gloucester through partnerships with local businesses.
LeClair was raised in the Gloucester County Public Schools system and Rappahannock Community College before she received a bachelor’s degree from Roanoke College.
“It was important for me to return home and serve my community after graduation,” LeClair said.
Since returning to Gloucester, LeClair spent a decade working in coalition building, facilities management, and grant writing in the nonprofit sector, the county said. She was an active member of the Gloucester Resource Council, and chairperson of the group from 2020-22, leading it through the pandemic.
She also serves as an assistant coach for Page Middle School’s field hockey team.
“I firmly believe that our community prospers through collaboration,” LeClair added.
LeClair noted she already has experience working with Gloucester County employees from various departments.
“The passion, creativity, and integrity that they bring to work each day is inspiring,” she said. “When I saw that this position would allow me to show my creativity while using some core components of my past experiences, it felt like a perfect fit.”
Among LeClair’s goals is to play a key role in securing grant funds and planning the opening of Gloucester’s historic buildings, which currently have limited public access due to rehabilitation needs, to engage visitors, the county noted.
“I’d also like to add more signature events to Gloucester’s calendar that can be enjoyed by both Gloucester’s public and out-of-town guests,” LeClair added.
“I am so pleased Hunter has joined our team,” said Matt Barber, Gloucester’s Director of Parks, Recreation & Tourism. “I am excited about her experience and enthusiasm for helping to spread the word about the amazing assets Gloucester has to offer.”
Providing leadership over Gloucester’s Daffodil Festival is what excites LeClair the most about the position, the county said.
“I don’t think there has been a year that my family has missed the Daffodil Festival,” LeClair said. “To have an impact on Gloucester’s premier event that has provided me with many special memories feels like a dream.”
