Jonathon Harris and Jaxon Miller aren’t finished representing Orrick High School, even though they graduated Sunday from there.
The two are competing for Orrick’s varsity boys track and field team this weekend at the Class 1 state meet in Jefferson City. They qualified for state with top-four finishes at Class 1 Sectional 4 competition May 11 at Adrian.
Harris and Miller each qualified in two individual events. Harris qualified by winning the 110-meter high hurdles and placing third in the 300 intermediate hurdles.
Harris was grateful to qualify, he said. “(There are) a lot of people that can’t, so I’m just thankful for it,” Harris said after Sunday’s graduation ceremony.
Harris, who finished fifth in the 110 hurdles at the 2023 Class 1 state meet, likes his chances of winning the event this time.
“That’s what I’m really looking forward to,” he said. “And I’m just going to try to get top four in the 300 hurdles. … We’ll see.”
