One often expects the unexpected in the crazy world of freelancing. Harnoor Saluja’s most recent client interaction literally tops the list even by those criteria. The independent communications expert became the focus of a viral storm after posting a strange occurrence on LinkedIn.
“When I thought invoices couldn’t get weirder, a client sent me a cheesecake,” evidently still amused and somewhat perplexed, Harnoor Saluja wrote. “Yes. A whole cheesecake. Not a thank-you note, not a payment-just dairy-based confusion,” she mentioned.
What transpired was a masterful performance of storytelling, infused with equal parts humour and incredulity.
In anticipation of a standard financial transfer, Harnoor Saluja clarified that she had given the client her address. The client, however, mistook the address for an invitation to provide dessert in a turn of events straight out of a romantic comedy.
“I sent my address expecting money. They saw it and thought, “This freelancer? She needs dessert,” she jested in her now-viral post.
From there, her sarcasm only grew more acute.
“Look, I love cake, but last I checked, I wasn’t running a pastry subscription. Are we invoicing in tiramisu now? Should I start accepting PayPal and panna cotta?” she also added. She also clarified, adding that “Sir, I’m here to get paid, not open a bakery. But if this is the vibe, I’m raising my rates to include éclairs and emotional compensation.”
In addition, Harnoor Saluja ended her post with a note saying – “Should I list “gulab jamun” under preferred payment modes?”

Shared just a day ago, the post has garnered over 200 likes and several comments. Several people commented with equally delightful laughter, and the story took on a life of its own.
A user joked, “Is this a new kind of barter collab?”
Another recommended that she add “Ras Malai” to her list of satisfactory payment options.
“Only if you’re ready to accept kaju katli as change,” an individual wrote.
The post highlighted a very real annoyance that freelancers have when their clients refuse to pay on time, avoid paying, or both. Harnoor Saluja’s story, despite its cheesecake-like presentation, highlights a significant problem in the gig economy: the undervaluation of freelancing and creative employment.
