MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A federal judge in Mobile this week sentenced a Mobile tax preparer to five years of probation for tax fraud.
According to court documents and Internal Revenue Service records, 42-year-old Brandy Lynn Davis, who operated Davis Tax Service, underreported her income by more than $1 million in 2015 and 2016. Records also showed that she failed to file tax returns for 2017 even though she had “significant income.”
U.S. District Judge Terry F. Moorer handed down the sentence on Thursday. Davis will have to spend the first year of her probation under home confinement and will be subject to ankle monitoring. The judge also ordered Davis to pay $53,435 in restitution.
Last month, Davis’ cousin and business partner, Kenneshia Davis, was sentenced to serve a year and a day of incarceration and to pay $67,975 in restitution, according to federal prosecutors.
