Former Tottenham striker Mido has launched an attack on Totteham’s owners, pointing to them as the reason why the Lilywhites have not been able to win any trophies of late.
Spurs have not won any silverware since their League Cup win back in 2008, which is the longest trophy drought in the club’s history since the start of the 20th century.
While Tottenham have come close to winning some big trophies over the last decade, they have always fallen at the final few hurdles and have been unable to get over the line.
That is something that Ange Postecoglou hopes to change but it is fair to say that the Australian has not been impressed with what he has seen over recent days.
The 58-year-old said following Tottenham’s defeat to Man City that he has realised that the foundations both inside and outside the club are quite ‘fragile’ (Football.London).
While the Spurs boss did not explain his statement, reports indicate that he was angered that some staff at the club had been relaxed about losing against City because of the title context (NY Times).
Mido lashes out at Daniel Levy for lack of Spurs success
However, Mido believes that the owners have to be held to account after another season where Tottenham failed to win silverware or quality for the Champions League.
Here is what the Egyptian tweeted:
‘It’s a shame that a such a historical club like Tottenham can’t win any trophies and it’s clear that there is only one thing in the owner and board’s head and it’s only making money!! I really believe that Spurs fans deserve better !! I mean the club got everything needed to go to the top!! Unfortunately, this will never happen with the people who are running the club right now!!’
Spurs Web Opinion
One certainly cannot accuse the Tottenham ownership of not backing Postecolgou in the transfer market. They will likely do so again this summer and as Ange himself has pointed out repeatedly, it is entirely up to him to show that he can steer the club to the top.
