Elon mourns the loss of student Talia Malinsky ’25

The Elon University community is mourning the loss of student Talia Malinsky, a member of the Class of 2025 who passed away on Monday, April 29, after an extended illness. Malinsky was a marketing major from Westfield, New Jersey, and had been on leave since spring 2023.

During a gathering of Friends on Friday, May 3, at the Pavilion behind the Sklut Hillel Center, Malinsky’s friends shared feelings of loss and reflected on their fond memories. Malinsky was remembered for the ease with which she could make friends and the great advice she offered. One friend recalled how Malinsky turned everything into an adventure and helped the people around her feel relaxed.

“She had such an impact in the short amount of time she was in this community,” said University Chaplain Rev. Kirstin Boswell. “Talia’s memory will remain in your hearts and in your dreams.”

There are several sources of support available at the university, including chaplains in the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, counselors in Counseling Services or through TimelyCare, and supportive staff in Student Care and Outreach. Students can always access the 24/7 resources from the crisis counselor on call at 336-278-2222, TalkNow from TimelyCare, or the Student Life administrator on-call through Campus Safety and Police at 336-278-5555. Faculty and staff may also utilize Elon Work-Life Resources for support.
