Privacy-focused web browser DuckDuckGo has announced DuckDuckGo AI Chat, which can prove to be a medium to let users access chatbots like OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Meta Llama 3 and Mistral’s Mixtral 8x7B for free in an anonymous way. The platform noted the optional feature is restricted with a daily limit.
According to DuckDuckGo, while users can choose to toggle the option off easily, the chats are private and anonymised by the platform and are not used in any form of AI training. The company noted more chat models, new browser entry points, and a paid plan (with more daily limits and advanced models) are a part of the upcoming plans.
Users can access DuckDuckGo AI Chat on duck.ai and duckduckgo.com/chat. Secondly, people can also use the “!ai” or “!chat bang” shortcuts to start chatting. “DuckDuckGo AI Chat is a free, anonymous way to access popular AI chatbots,” the platform said. These cannot be traced to an individual. DuckDuckGo said the model is called on the user’s behalf by the platform and the IP address of the user is removed.
Users can also use the fire button to clear all chats. “DuckDuckGo does not save or store any chats. To respond with answers and ensure all systems are working, the underlying model providers may store chats temporarily, but there’s no way for them to tie chats back to you, personally, since all metadata is removed.”
