MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Ahead of the Distinguished Young Women’s national competition, some contestants and visitors chowed down on some oysters.
This comes as the organization hosts a series of events including Wintzell’s Oyster Eating Contest, ahead of the national competition.
Six DYW contestants participated in the oyster-eating event that lasted from noon to 1:30 p.m. on June 24, according to organization officials.
The winner: Montana’s Lyla Ackerman.
Organization officials said she ate 44 oysters in the competition compared to the second-place finisher’s 35 and the third-place finisher’s 24 oysters.
And where did Alabama’s contestant, who is from Mobile, place?
DeAsia Jones did not participate, noting that she does not like raw oysters.
