The USA BMX New England Nationals is underway at Indian Lodge Park in Trumbull.
Hundreds of BMX riders from all around the world are hitting the tracks for the competition. Local riders are excited to have it in their backyard.
“Home turf, definitely know the lands,” said Matthew Hortsches, of Ansonia. He started riding as a toddler.
The three-day event has brought in people from over 30 states and eight countries. Connecticut Convention and Sports Bureau said the event is expected to generate $2.35M in revenue.
“It’s a lot of hotel nights, it’s a lot of restaurants full, so it’s great for the economy and it’s great see everybody just having fun,” said Trumbull BMX’s track director Chris Gombos.
Anyone who wants to learn more about the sport is invited to attend Trumbull BMX’s open house, Thursday, Aug. 1 at 5-7 p.m.
