A supermarket in Bengaluru has evoked a sense of nostalgia among social media users with its marketing idea that is nothing but unique to say the least. Sharanya Shetty, an X user, shared a picture of the ‘nostalgic wall’ put up by MK Retail in a post and called it “Peak Bengaluru”.
Encased within glass, the wall displays an array of vintage candy wrappers and household brand packages, each a cherished item from the days gone by. The sight of Palmolive soap, Lipton tea bags, Colgate toothpaste, and Chiclets gum packets evokes a sense of warmth and familiarity, and reminds us of a typical desi household’s pantry.
“This was such a lovely nostalgia yet marketing idea by this supermarket,” read the caption.
Take a look:
The collection extends to beloved confections like KitKats, which have withstood the test of time, alongside treats that have faded from modern store shelves.
Vintage packets of Snickers, Phantom sweet cigarette candies, and Twix bars are prominently featured, their classic designs a stark contrast to today’s sleek packaging. These wrappers represent more than just products; they symbolise the collective childhood of generations who grew up saving their pocket money for these simple pleasures.
MK Retail’s tribute to the past is a heartfelt homage to the cultural fabric of India. It’s a reminder of the sweet simplicity of childhood, where joy could be found in the crinkle of a candy wrapper or the anticipation of a chocolate’s first bite
