The study, titled “Friends with Benefits: Social Capital and Household Financial Behavior,” was published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, and it was co-authored by researchers from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and Baylor University’s Hankamer…

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini rely heavily on Large Language Models (LLMs). These LLMs are AI programs designed to recognise and generate text, among other tasks. They are termed ‘large’ due to their training on extensive datasets. Simply put, LLMs use a type of machine learning called deep learning to understand the structure and function of characters, words, and sentences. According to a study by OpenAI, some LLMs used by GenAI are trained on datasets exceeding 1.5 trillion words. Although these datasets are gathered from the internet, the quality of the samples impacts how well…

Production Line in Levi Strauss Plant (Photo by © Ted Streshinsky/CORBIS/Corbis via Getty Images)Corbis via Getty Images During my time at Levi’s, we underwent a critical evolution in how we thought about our customer. Instead of talking about “share of closet” (how many pairs of pants does someone own, and how many of them are Levi’s) we began to talk about “share of wallet.” The paradigm shift was recognizing that to engage current and future customers we weren’t just competing with physical purchases, but with all their discretionary spending. Customers today equate going for dinner, or purchasing concert tickets, with…
