During April’s Lunch and Learn, AHCJ’s freelance members asked each other for advice on all kinds of such scenarios. Here, I’ll summarize some of the key takeaways. Scenario one: An…

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development proposed a new rule this week that would classify more gig workers, including drivers for rideshare and meal-delivery apps and freelance writers, as normal company employees. While the rules purport to provide protections to independent contractors, NJBIA Vice President of Government Affairs Elissa Frank said the proposal will instead reduce their freedoms, while greatly increasing labor costs for businesses. “The main takeaway is that under the proposal it will be extremely difficult to be considered an independent contractor in New Jersey,” Frank said. “And that may be what the Department of…
Additional Signs of Strength Needed If gold can continue to recover from the pullback, it is set up for a continuation of momentum unleashed with a bull flag breakout that triggered on Monday. Pullbacks of some degree follow breakouts and once complete the primary trend should be ready to resume. But the characteristics of the resumption can vary. So, regardless of the pattern and its bullish implications, there are quick and aggressive resumptions of the bull trend that may occur, as well as weaker signs. Solid Launch Pad The short trendline across the bottom of the immediate upswing reflects the…

In the wild world of freelancing, one often expects the unexpected. But even by those standards, Harnoor Saluja’s recent client interaction takes the cake—quite literally. The communications professional, who works independently, found herself at the center of a viral storm after sharing a bizarre incident on LinkedIn. “When I thought invoices couldn’t get weirder, a client sent me a cheesecake,” she wrote, clearly still amused and a tad baffled. “Not a thank-you note, not a payment—just dairy-based confusion.” What followed was a masterclass in comedic storytelling, seasoned with equal parts disbelief and wit. A sweet misunderstanding or misplaced generosity?Saluja explained…
