Congressman Henry Cuellar announced Montana Franke as the 2024 Congressional Art Competition winner Tuesday.
A student at Marion High School, Montana created “Stride of Freedom” — a mixed media artwork depicting a photo of a patriotic parade in front of a historical building right before sunset.
The colors of the sky reflect down on the building, along with horses and American flags. The leader of the parade holds his flag high to show his appreciation for the country.
This year, 90 students in Texas’s 28th Congressional District participated in the competition.
“Congratulations to Montana Franke for winning TX-28’s Congressional Art Competition! I admire her effort and creativity in this competition and know she will represent South Texas very well in Washington,” Dr. Cuellar said. “The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for young students to demonstrate and be recognized for their creative talents. Congratulations to every student who participated in this year’s competition.”
The Congressional Art Competition is held annually in Congressional districts across the country to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards reception in Washington, D.C.
Since the competition’s inception in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. The winning work from each Congressional district is displayed in an 11-month exhibit in the Cannon tunnel that leads into the U.S. Capitol.
