OpenAI GPT-4o: How to access free, faster, and enhanced version of the ChatGPT-4 model |

OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT-4o, an upgraded variant of its ChatGPT-4 model, designed to provide faster and more capable text, vision, and audio processing. This new model was announced by OpenAI CTO Mira Murati during a livestream event on May 13. Murati highlighted that ChatGPT-4o offers improved performance and will be available to all users at no cost.Additionally, paying users will continue to enjoy expanded capacity limits, up to five times greater than those available to free users.

What is GPT-4o?

GPT-4o represents OpenAI’s latest flagship model, integrating advanced reasoning capabilities across audio, vision, and text modalities in real time. It has been made freely accessible to all users.

Accessing GPT-4o through the OpenAI API

OpenAI is making GPT-4o available within the Chat Completions API, Assistants API, and Batch API for users with an OpenAI API account. This model supports function calls and JSON mode, and users can initiate interactions through the Playground interface.

GPT-4o integration with ChatGPT

Initially, GPT-4o will be integrated into ChatGPT within various tiers, including Free, Plus, and Team, allowing users to leverage its enhanced capabilities for text and vision tasks.

Upgrading access

Free-tier users will be automatically assigned to GPT-4o, with message restrictions subject to change based on usage and demand. During peak usage times, free-tier users will revert to GPT-3.5. Advanced features such as data analysis, file uploads, and vision capabilities will be limited for free-tier users.

GPT-4o subscription benefits

Users can upgrade to ChatGPT Plus or Team subscriptions to access GPT-4o and GPT-4 with higher usage limits and advanced features. Starting May 13th, 2024, ChatGPT-4o Plus subscribers will benefit from an increased message capacity of up to 80 messages every 3 hours, while ChatGPT-4 Plus subscribers can send up to 40 messages within the same timeframe.

GPT-4o message caps

Message caps may be adjusted during peak hours to ensure accessibility for all users. Unused messages within a 3-hour period will not carry over to subsequent cycles.

GPT-4o Workspace features

In ChatGPT Team workspaces, message limits for GPT-4 and GPT-4o are higher compared to ChatGPT Plus accounts, offering enhanced capabilities for collaborative environments.
