HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A Norris City, Illinois, native won a national competition in Reno, Nevada.
According to Southeastern Illinois College (SIC), the SIC Forensic Falcons ended a successful season in Reno on April 6, earning bronze medals in both team and individual events and team overall sweepstakes. The Falcons also captured several individual medals in interpretation and public speaking.
“I am very proud of this team,” noted Director of Forensics Jenny Billman. “They worked hard all season.”
One person’s individual results from the tournament, who comes from a place that is part of our southeastern Illinois coverage area, is Rachel Russell from Norris City. SIC says she received a bronze in prose interpretation and a bronze in dramatic interpretation.
According to SIC, the 2024 national tournament marks the end of the Falcons’ 2023–24 season, which also included winning a state championship in the community college division. SIC notes its Forensic Falcons have “a long history of success,” placing first in overall national competition in 1986, 2005, and 2021.
