If you’re self-employed or running a tiny business in Spain, here’s some good news: the government is offering a €1,000 grant to help you upgrade your computer.
It’s part of an update to the Digital Kit programme, which aims to give freelancers and micro-businesses a much-needed push into the digital age.
Who qualifies for Spain’s €1,000 tech grant – and what are the conditions?
This €1,000 isn’t just being handed out to anyone. It’s specifically for freelancers and businesses with fewer than three employees. The funding falls under what’s called Segment III of the Digital Kit scheme, which recently upped its total value from €2,000 to €3,000. The extra €1,000 is set aside just for buying a new computer. But don’t expect to spend it on the cheapest laptop you can find – there are minimum requirements.
The new machine needs to be fast and secure: we’re talking about at least four processor cores, 2.9 GHz speed, 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD, and the latest connectivity features like Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It also needs to run a professional-grade operating system with built-in cybersecurity features.
Here’s the fine print: for the first year, the computer belongs to the certified supplier (called a Digital Agent). After 12 months, you can keep it by paying just 15 per cent of the price. It’s a smart way to make sure the tech is actually used – and properly maintained – without forcing small businesses into big upfront costs.
How to apply for Spain’s tech grant without getting lost in red tape
The process is all digital, which keeps things simple. Head to the AceleraPyme website, register, and take a short self-assessment to evaluate how digital your setup is right now. Once that’s done, pick the “Secure Workstation” option – this is where the grant for computer hardware lives.
From there, choose a certified Digital Agent (they’re the official providers), and they’ll handle the purchase. You don’t get the €1,000 in your account – it’s deducted from the invoice. So yes, less hassle.
If you’ve already received the initial €2,000 grant, there’s still good news. Starting June 2025, you’ll be able to apply for this €1,000 top-up, as long as you meet the updated requirements.
What else Spain’s Digital Kit grant covers beyond laptops
While the €1,000 is strictly for computer gear, the other €2,000 from the Digital Kit can be used for a wide range of tech solutions. Need a website? Social media tools? A customer management platform or data analytics tools? All of those are fair game.
The programme runs until June 30, 2025, and comes with a budget of €350 million – with the option to expand it based on demand. So if you’re a freelancer or running a small operation, now’s the time to level up your digital setup. A faster laptop today could mean a smoother business tomorrow.
