Visually impaired singer Kimiela ‘Candy’ Isaacs’ #One Jamaica has taken the number one spot in the Jamaica Festival Song Competition.
The announcement was made a short while ago inside the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College.
Isaacs was selected through a combination of votes from a panel of judges and public voting
Of the 10 finalists, she was one of six women to make it to the final of the competition in the contest’s near 60-year history.
The entertainer has a notable history with Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) competitions, having won second place in the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition in 2009 and being a finalist in the Jamaica Festival Song Competition in 2021.
Notable finalists in this year’s competition included Miss Hanover Festival Queen 2023 Tricia ‘Trisstar’ Cunningham, with Jamaica Jamaica and media personality Pepita Little, with We are Jamaicans.
Isaacs will walk away with a share of the $3 million dollar cash prize.The prize money is shared with the winning song’s performer, song writer and producer.
The remaining finalists in this year’s competition included Auraiya Hope, with Proud Jamaican; Sister Novelette, Fi Mi Island Home; TrishMaq, Jamaica is a Big Brand; Lex M.D., Jah Love this Land; Renzzah, Waa Back Jamaica; Reggae Maxx, Better Jamaica and Casey Donaldson, Sweet Jamaica.
