MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – The City of Minot is considering some changes to crack down on overdue utility bills.
At a recent Minot City Council meeting, the council talked about what changes to make in the delinquency policy so people are held more accountable.
Council member Stephen Podrygula said these unpaid charges add up to thousands of dollars owed to the city.
Finance director David Lakefield said they already assess for charges that are more than 30 days past due, however, they are working out the nuts and bolts on who follows up if the bill isn’t paid.
“We have a number of departments throughout the city that have accounts. They’re the ones that are dealing with these customers,” said Lakefield.
The council did not vote on amendments to the current policy.
It’s been tabled until they get more details on the updated collection process.
