TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A team from UT Tyler’s Houston Engineering Center advanced to the national finals in the American Institute of Steel Construction’s student competition. Professor Shariful Huq and two of the students, Alexander Carranza and Jose Herrera, talk about the competition so far.
To earn their position, the team outperformed students from LeTourneau University, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, UT Austin and Texas A&M University, among others. At the annual contest, collegiate teams build steel bridges under a time limit and are judged in various categories.
The steel bridge competition first began in 1987, with three teams and has grown every year since. For more information, visit their website.
